U.S. Figure Skating Nationals
(St. Paul, MN)

Unlike in other big figure skating countries, such as Japan and Russia, where "Junior Nationals" refers to the National Championships on the Junior level, in the United States, Novice, Junior and Senior-level skaters compete at the National Championships, the "Big Nationals".

Juvenile and Intermediate-level skaters compete at the "Junior Nationals" (formerly called the Junior Olympics) in the United States.

The level of talent and quality of skating at the Big Nationals was nothing short of outstanding.

Even though I had injuries on both legs, wearing a special boot throughout the event, we all had a blast. I am so happy I did not scratch and after long family discussions decided to compete. I did well in both programs (considering my circumstances) and placed the lucky 13th, or the last but one. I met all these elite skaters, made new friends, and enjoyed this week full of skating events. See the 2008 U.S. Nationals slide show.

The most talented and hard working skaters who placed at the top of the previous year's Juniors swept the Seniors podium in 2008. I felt privileged to compete and befriend with Junior ladies. Best of luck to them in the 2008 season!

Senior Ladies
1. Mirai Nagasu - 190.41 pts
2. Rachael Flatt - 188.73 pts
3. Ashley Wagner - 188.56 pts
Junior Ladies
1. Alexe Gilles - 156.17 pts
2. Angela Maxwell - 150.11 pts
3. Brittney Rizo - 149.60 pts

Men's event became famious for the simingly impossible tie between Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir. What a dissapointment it was for Johnny when Evan was announced the winner due to his placements. Junior men, Adam and Brandon, were absolutely incredible as they broke the 200 in total points.

Senior Men
1. Evan Lysacek - 244.77 pts
2. Johnny Weir - 244.77 pts
3. Stephen Carriere - 228.06 pts
Junior Men
1. Adam Rippon - 213.76 pts
2. Brandon Mroz - 203.63 pts
3. Andrew Gonzales - 182.27 pts

In pairs, new faces again, but the audience shed tears of joy when Baldwin proposed to Inoue at the conclusion of their program. The knee stance, the glowing eyes, the question that echoed for days in the media... She said yes.
